More Than Words (2010 )

More Than Words... is a series of text pieces collaged from appropriated photo lab envelopes. The catch phrases that permeate these sleeves invariably strive to reinforce the photograph as a direct perserver of memory. This common belief,co-opted by photo labs and manufacturers as a means of increasing sales, is destabilized here by deliberate repetition. Referencing Leon James' study of "semantic satiation", these pieces investigate whether the implied meaning embedded in these turns-of-phrase hold up in the face of vast redundancy.
